Originally created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TSOUND Connections program uses music to reduce social isolation among seniors in care.
The TSOUND Connections program reveals the important place music has in all of our lives and its ability to elicit memories and connect us. It helps seniors maintain a sense of culture and connection to the community by tapping into everyone’s unique musical identities.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
TSOUND Connections uses music and technology to bring intimate musical experiences into the homes and lives of socially isolated seniors. The program connects seniors with a TSO or TSYO musician for a 30-minute session of music and conversation over Zoom or Google Meet.
Since the program’s inception in 2020, TSO and TSYO musicians have made over 350 calls and spent over 10,000 minutes sharing music and conversation with seniors. Watch the video below to see the program in action.
RESPONSES TO THE PROGRAM
“It was a very peaceful and pleasant time for my husband and myself, makes us remember that
life can still have beautiful moments.” - Baycrest client
“It is interesting that they send people from the TSO who are so wonderful. We hear them talk
and to hear them play, and for us it is just a wonderful joy! We learn how they live and what they
think, and it's a great education.” - Baycrest client
“The program brought real value and was a gift to my dad that I will forever be an advocate for. I have seen him light up and be motivated whenever he's at these musical programs. Music really brings people together. For the short time that he's on the zoom meeting, he forgets that it's just a screen from where he can see and hear the people, he actually sings and feels that he's doing his part for the musical.” - Caregiver of Alzheimer Society Peel client
