Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra Gets Back On Stage

They’ve been waiting for over two years to play together on stage!
May 5, 2022

Traditionally, spring is a time when the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO) gets its chance to shine. TSYO musicians work and wait all year in order to show off all they've learned in concerts usually held in April: a side-by-side performance doubled up on stage with TSO musicians; and, a Spring Concert—their season finale performance at Roy Thomson Hall.

Although the pandemic was challenging for the TSO as a whole, it was particularly hard on the TSYO, which was forced to cancel all of its on-stage performances in 2020 and 2021. Those patrons who attended last month’s side-by-side performances and Spring Concert were the lucky participants in the TSYO’s first return to Roy Thomson Hall since spring 2019!

Our congratulations to the TSYO musicians, coaches and mentors, and staff who never gave up. They worked with enthusiasm and ingenuity for over two years to ensure that they made those long months of waiting as productive and worthwhile as possible. Bravi tutti!
