Lucia Ticho

Chicago-native cellist Lucia Ticho enjoys an active career as a performer and pedagogue. She joined the Toronto Symphony in 2022 and has played with the Houston Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and the Classical Tahoe Orchestra. She has performed extensively as a chamber musician with Houston’s DACAMERA and at summer festivals around the US, collaborating with artists like violinist Stefan Jackiw, singer-songwriter Ben Folds, and dancer Lil Buck. An advocate and enthusiast for new music, she has appeared with Loop38, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, AXIOM, the New Juilliard Ensemble, and the Shepherd School Contemporary Ensemble.

Ticho is a dedicated teacher, and her students have been accepted to competitive pre-college and college programs at the Manhattan School of Music, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She is also committed to expanding music education in K–12 classrooms, having taught over 50 school workshops across the Houston metropolitan area in 2021.

Ticho attended Columbia University (Bachelor of Arts, 2020), The Juilliard School (Master of Music, 2021), and Rice University. Her mentors have included Richard Aaron, Tanya Carey, Timothy Eddy, and Brinton Smith. She is an alumna of the Aspen Music Festival, the Sarasota Music Festival, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
