Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO) Reunite In-Person for First Rehearsal

TSYO members begin their performance season with an invitation by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir to perform in their Festival of Carols concert on December 1.
September 30, 2021

For 83 high-achieving young people determined to meet high standards of excellence as musicians, the past 18 months of rehearsing and training virtually have been a challenge that they consistently overcame, despite all circumstances. The challenges of the pandemic made their in-person reunion in September all the more rewarding as they got to perform music together, once again.

TSYO Conductor Simon Rivard will continue to lead the TSYO this season and has big plans for the students, including studying scores, participating in sessions with their TSO musicians who serve as coaches and mentors, and rehearsing with their colleagues.

TSYO members begin their performance season with an invitation by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir to perform in their Festival of Carols concert on December 1. They will also have their much anticipated Side-by-Side concert—the highlight of every season—in which TSYO members pair up on stage with TSO members to perform a piece in Roy Thomson Hall in April, conducted by Gustavo Gimeno. Their 48th Season Finale Concert is in Roy Thomson Hall on April 30, conducted by Simon Rivard.
