Look Ahead to Symphony Exploder with Gustavo Gimeno
January 10, 2024It’s a big year for Stravinsky in Toronto—if you missed our sensational opening to the 2023/24 season with The Rite of Spring, we’ve got one more showing that mustn’t be missed. On April 5, 2024, Hrishikesh Hirway, the visionary behind the groundbreaking Song Exploder podcast and Netflix series, will join Music Director Gustavo Gimeno and the TSO for the hit show’s first-ever live orchestral collaboration—Symphony Exploder: The Rite of Spring. This will be a performance of the Stravinsky favourite like we’ve never seen or heard, and will feature Hirway and Gimeno in an onstage conversation replete with excerpts, live replays, and intimate revelations. With a baton in one hand and a scalpel in the other, Gimeno and Hirway will dissect every mesmerising layer of this perennially mysterious work, followed by a heart-pounding rendition by the full orchestra.
Can’t get enough of Stravinsky? Neither can we—this February, join us for a special performance of his incidental music for the ballet Pulcinella. Special as it will be a live-recording that will be released as part of our multi-album partnership with the famed Harmonia Mundi label. After Symphony Exloder, the TSO will present Stravinsky — via the TSYO — as they travel to Cleveland in June to perform the Suite from The Firebird once more this season.
