Thank you for making the TSO an essential part of your students’ education.
My name is Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, and I am thrilled to have been appointed the TSO’s new Barrett Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador. Over the next few seasons, I will be curating the Education and Community Engagement programs, using my experience as a classroom teacher to develop initiatives that impact the way students hear, understand, and enjoy music.
As we move into the 2020/21 season, we know that this is a tough time for us all, and in particular for the educators who are working to create rich and engaging experiences for their students. The TSO has made the difficult decision to replace our season—which includes our Young People’s Concerts, Relaxed Performances, and School Concerts—with plans to perform redesigned concerts and programs in communities across the GTA, for audience sizes that are aligned with current health regulations.
In this new reality of distance learning, we have created instructional videos that are free to share in online classrooms and platforms. These include beginner instrumental tutorials, duets with members of the Orchestra, and family activities that support our elementary partners. For those of you who’d like to go further, we are also launching Classroom Concerts, a virtual field trip where students can meet a professional musician from the TSO and get a unique musical experience delivered directly to your classroom.
There will be more digital learning opportunities to come this season. Stay tuned! As always, we look forward to being a part of your students’ learning journey.
