Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador
A passionate communicator, Daniel brings clarity and meaning to the concert hall, fostering deep connections between audiences and performers. Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser is the Artist in Residence and Community Ambassador of Symphony Nova Scotia, conducting Ballet and Pops with national and international artists and designing diverse and relevant family and outreach shows for the Halifax community. He was Assistant Conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Associate Conductor of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Daniel has performed with the Toronto Symphony, The Calgary Philharmonic, The Hamilton Philharmonic, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony, the Eastern Sierra Symphony in California, and he has been re-invited to the San Francisco Symphony for five seasons.
In the 2019/20 season, Daniel will début with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic, and will be Cover Conductor with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Centre. He will also be the Subject of a feature length documentary, which will be aired nationally by the Canadian Broadcasting Company in the fall of 2019. This documentary will take a look at Daniel’s efforts to extend the boundaries of the orchestral music work through concerts that have reached out to neurodiverse, prison and marginalized populations.
In the 2020 Season Daniel will début with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Regina Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel earned his Bachelors in Music Performance and Education from the University of Calgary where he also earned a Diploma in Advanced Wind Band Conducting. He received his Master of Philosophy in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. He has been awarded RBC Royal Bank Emerging Artist Grant and the Canada Council for the Arts Jean Baudet Prize for Orchestral Conducting. Daniel is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
