Mi Hyon Kim
A descendent of twenty-seven generations of the Kim family from North Korea, Mi Hyon Kim settled in Seoul and eventually immigrated to Canada. Ms. Kim has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1989. She has been a member of The Chamber Players of Toronto, the Amadeus Ensemble, and The Amici Chamber Ensemble. Ms. Kim studied at the Peabody Conservatory, and the San Francisco Conservatory, where she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She was a student of Isidore Desser at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Berl Senofsky, and Isadore Tinkleman. While completing her studies, she spent summers attending the Banff Festival, Kneisel Hall, and Round Top. Ms. Kim is married to Joaquin Valdepeñas who is principal clarinet of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. They have two sons who are also musicians.
