Gary Labovitz

Gary Labovitz, viola, came to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in October, 1973, shortly after graduating from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. In his 45th season, he is currently the longest serving member of the Orchestra. His career has taken him all over the world, and his been multifaceted including teaching, recording, and chamber music.

An injury in 1987 led Gary to the study of the Alexander Technique. Wishing to further advance in that field he enrolled at the Teacher Training Program at the Toronto School of the Alexander Technique in 2005, receiving his certification after completing the required 1600 hours.

Gary enjoys working with his colleagues, helping them to learn the Technique so as to avoid injury while playing.
