Amalia Joanou-Canzoneri
Violin

Amy has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for six years. Prior to that she was the Associate Concertmaster of the Hamilton Philharmonic for nineteen years. She and her husband, also a violinist, both attended the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Her principal teachers were Paul Makanovitsky, Jamie Laredo, and Mischa Mischakoff. Mr. Mischakoff was the concertmaster of the NBC Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini.
Amy attended the Interlochen National Music Camp in Traverse City, Michigan, almost every summer from grade school through to University. She also spent time at the Meadowmount School of Music, in upstate New York. This summer school was founded by Ivan Galamian, who was head of the violin department at the Juilliard School for many years.
Amy and her husband Wren, have just formed a string Quartet named Amaro with TSO's Kent Teeple and COC's Paul Widner. Amy's other interests include cooking and going to the ballet.
