Seventeen thousand kilometres. Two hundred and four travellers. Eight cities. Six countries. A tour first imagined in the 2021/22 season arrived this winter, as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra travelled to Europe under Music Director Gustavo Gimeno—performing Canadian work alongside the orchestral canon on some of the continent’s most storied stages.

From first-ever appearances in Spain and Luxembourg to return engagements in some of the continent’s most celebrated halls, the tour paired Mahler, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev with contemporary Canadian composers—several concerts selling out along the way.

Onstage: intensity and control. Backstage: concentration, routine, the moments before the music begins. Beyond the concert halls, patrons followed closely—sharing meals, conversations, and ovations with the orchestra.

The tour resonated beyond the concert hall, earning critical coverage at home and abroad in The Globe and Mail, Spain’s national newspaper ABC Cultural, and the Dutch outlet Diapason.
