From Mozart to Madonna and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to Sister Sledge, our TSO at the Drive-In programs offer musical surprises and delight for the entire family.

The TSO makes a welcome return to CityView Drive-In for four performances with two concert programs, with over 25 TSO musicians live on-stage, while the concert is also displayed on a massive LED screen and piped into patrons’ cars.

“These drive-in concerts are another example of how the TSO finds ways to share music no matter the circumstances. As disappointed as we were to cancel these programs in the spring, I know audiences will enjoy these concerts now at the drive-in, filled with themes of celebration and resilience. This is just the beginning of the reunion between TSO musicians and patrons,” says Gustavo Gimeno, Music Director.

The Mozart & Martines (Sept. 24 & 25, 2021; 7:30pm) program features two of Mozarts’s most well-known works—Symphony No. 40 and Eine kleine Nachtmusik, alongside work by 18th-century composer, singer and pianist Marianna Martines. Although she was famous throughout Europe during her lifetime, the 21st century is only now catching up to Martines’s renown as a composer, despite the fact that Mozart is thought to have created a work inspired by one of hers. “I am very excited to be conducting this concert—Mozart’s masterpieces and Martines’s work are so interconnected with each other, both historically and musically,” said Simon Rivard, Conductor and RBC Resident Conductor & TSYO Conductor.

Originally planned as part of the city’s June Pride celebrations, Pride Together (Oct. 1 & 2, 2021; 7:30pm), conducted by Daniel Bartholomew Poyser, Barrett Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador, will be a high-octane program that parallels the journey of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. "The concert features very different styles of music that are all connected to our 2SLGBTQ+ Community. Tchaikovsky side by side with Lady Gaga, Saint-Saëns with Madonna all on the same program. It's a fun way to program for a modern audience," explains Daniel.
