Award-winning architect Alexander Josephson, co-founder of PARTISANS, is no stranger to ambitious creative projects. His designs—and his recently launched tech startup, Cumulus—explore how ideas can shape both the physical and digital worlds.

For Alex, the symphony offers a different kind of architecture: one built from sound, risk, and human connection. “Almost every time I go to the TSO, there is a moment when the hair stands up on the back of my neck,” he says. “To see so many people come together to create a shared experience is always inspiring.”

Noteworthy: Why join the Gala Committee now?

Alexander Josephson: There are wonderful people involved, and most importantly, I wanted to learn more about the work the TSO is doing and how it is evolving. I was happy to be part of the committee. The past three years coming out of the pandemic have been focused on family and work, so the chance to be part of a new community with cultural impact here felt meaningful to me.

NW: Why does the Gala’s impact matter to you?

AJ: As the world becomes increasingly digital and detached, providing youth with hands-on education will only become more challenging. Supporting physical human connection is essential and more critical than ever.

NW: What excites you about making classical music more visible and accessible?

AJ: How classical music stays relevant through its potential to evolve, and interact with other genres and emerging technologies.

His own Gala night might hinge on one very important date — his second child’s due date falls on the event itself. “Either way,” he says, “the suspense will make it memorable.” If he’s there, expect to see him in the Tom Ford tuxedo from his wedding, an enduring investment in timeless design.
