Impact Beyond the Stage
When the final chord rings out and applause fills the hall, the power of a live performance is unmistakable. But the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s impact extends much farther than the stage. As a registered charity, the TSO brings people together through education, community access, and well-being programs across Toronto and beyond.
Inspiring Young People
For many students, a TSO concert is their first opportunity to experience a live orchestra. During the 2025/26 season, more than 35,000 students attended Student Concerts, discovering new sounds, stories, and possibilities through music. Thirty Morning with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra program dates reached an additional 1,650 high school students, while Symphony Storytime, presented in partnership with Toronto Public Library, welcomed approximately 800 children, family members, and community attendees.
Expanding Access
The TSO works to ensure that cost and circumstance do not prevent people from experiencing live orchestral music. Through the Community Access Program, complimentary tickets are provided to organizations serving equity-seeking communities. In 2025/26, the program distributed 4,582 tickets, helping more people experience the joy, connection, and sense of belonging that live music can create.
Supporting Well-Being
Music can also offer comfort and connection during challenging moments. Art of Healing brings clients of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) together with composers and TSO musicians to explore storytelling and musical creation. TSOUND Connections engages seniors through music and conversation with the Alzheimer Society Peel, while Symphony for the Soul brings intimate performances to patients at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. In 2026/27, plans are underway to expand Symphony for the Soul to weekly performances across four patient units.
These programs are made possible by the generosity of the TSO’s donors and other supporters. Their commitment helps music reach more classrooms, communities, care settings, and people—from the stage and far beyond it.
