This program features one of Mozart’s last and most elegant symphonies, No. 39, and offers the rare and welcome opportunity to experience the sublime “Gran Partita”, an extended and luxuriously scored work for 12 wind instruments and double bass. When the Salieri of Amadeus hears the ravishing third movement of this work for the first time, he says, “it seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.”
Concert running time is approximately 90 minutes including a 20-minute intermission.
Due to construction underneath Roy Thomson Hall, limited parking is available at the venue. If traveling to Roy Thomson Hall by car, please leave extra time or make alternate arrangements.
