Toronto Symphony Performs FINAL FANTASY VII Video Game in Concert for the First Time
March 9, 2020
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will perform the Canadian Première of the soundtrack to the highly anticipated and groundbreaking video game FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Orchestra World Tour on June 26 and 27, 2020. The multimedia experience will include high-definition video scenes created exclusively for this concert by SQUARE ENIX from the newly remastered version of the 1997 original game. The performance is part of the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Orchestra World Tour, presented by AWR Music Productions. Tickets will go on sale on March 11 at 10:00am.
While the TSO has extensively performed films with live orchestral accompaniment, this marks the first time that the TSO is embarking on this genre of video-game music. “A whole new generation is being introduced to orchestral music through video games, and we wanted to contribute to the art form and hopefully introduce them to the live orchestral experience,” says Matthew Loden, CEO of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. “This is one way that we can invite audiences to perhaps hear music a little differently than on their gaming screens—the live orchestra sound can’t be beat.”
GRAMMY® Award–winning conductor Arnie Roth will lead the Orchestra and a chorus.
The performance will feature all-new symphonic arrangements based on composer Nobuo Uematsu’s music for the landmark entry in the video-game franchise. The composer was inspired by Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and the medieval poetry in Orff’s Carmina Burana when composing this score, and the themes from those works can be heard in much of the music. The concert will feature parts of the soundtrack that had previously only been created digitally, making this tour the first live performances with a full orchestra.
The TSO Season Presenting Sponsor is BMO Financial Group.
