Meet the TSO’s Superfan
September 29, 2020
TSO Donor David Hallman with Music Director Gustavo Gimeno
You could call David Hallman the TSO’s Superfan. Over the past six months, David has engaged with every one of the TSO’s virtual offerings. From watching #TSOatHome performances, to tuning into Music Talks events and our Facebook Live series, to gathering with fellow supporters via Zoom in the virtual Maestro’s Club Lounge, the long-time donor and subscriber has not missed a TSO beat since the beginning of the pandemic.
“As much as I miss the live orchestral experience, I also miss the community. I am so grateful that the TSO pulled together these wonderful events like the virtual Maestro’s Club...It's not quite like being in the lounge at Roy Thomson Hall before a concert, but it was so nice to see everyone!” explained David.
Like many TSO patrons, David is a life-long music lover and has been a symphony-goer for decades. He purchases several subscription series each season, and his tastes run from Masterworks to Pops to exploring newer music.
Philanthropy and community connection are also important values of David’s, and as long as he has been attending concerts, he has also been making an annual donation. Through his gifts to the Annual Fund—first, as a Friends donor, and then, as capacity allowed, as a Maestro's Club member—David has gradually deepened his relationship with the TSO and its musicians. He serves as Chair of our Maestro’s Club Committee, hosts donor events, and, at times, has also served as an ambassador for our Legacy Circle.
“For me, and I suspect many other donors, the bond between us and the Orchestra has been built up so solidly over many years, particularly over the more recent number of years, that our commitment isn’t going to waver,” said David, when reflecting on the challenging circumstances the performing arts sector finds itself in. When asked if he thought he could compare himself to Raptors Superfan Nav Bhatia, David laughed and replied, “Well, we certainly share a passionate commitment for the things we love! I’ve always felt the TSO to be a big part of my life, and I am incredibly grateful that, even in these days, when so many things are a struggle, we are there for each other.”
