Alexander Shelley and the National Arts Centre Orchestra

NACO: Heggie & Atwood + Brahms

Sat, Feb 11, 2023 Roy Thomson Hall

In a deeply emotional program, the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Canadian baritone Joshua Hopkins perform a personal and powerful song cycle—composed by Jake Heggie based on original poetry by Margaret Atwood—that conveys the tragedy of lives needlessly lost. Bookending the concert are Emilie Mayer's Faust-Overture and Brahms’s furiously passionate Symphony No. 4, which evokes the sounds of the entire universe from start to finish.
