Mendelssohn’s Reformation

Sat, Nov 29, 2025 George Weston Recital Hall

The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra opens its season with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, filled with jubilant bells and brilliant brass. Then, Sibelius’s Finlandia evokes snowy Finnish landscapes, building to a stirring hymn of national pride, and Anna Clyne’s This Moment offers a meditation on loss, wonder, and the preciousness of life. Finally, Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony weaves spiritual themes into a powerful ode to unity, ending with the bold declaration of Martin Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”
