Violinist Augustin Hadelich

Hadelich Plays Sibelius

Sat, Nov 19–Sun, Nov 20, 2022 Roy Thomson Hall

A gorgeous, silvery tone, limitless virtuosity, and joy that radiates from the stage are just a few of the reasons why Augustin Hadelich is one of the most adored violinists in the world, and he shares one of the supreme treasures of the repertoire in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, which opens in a wonderland of icy, ethereal beauty, and ends with a rollicking “polonaise for polar bears.” Immersive soundscapes unfold in music of Anna Thorvaldsdóttir (“the most exciting force in Icelandic music since Björk” –Financial Times) and opulent Viennese waltzes ring out in glittering music from Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, followed by Ravel’s red-hot waltz-gone-wild, La valse.

Gustavo Gimeno’s appearances are generously supported by Susan Brenninkmeyer in memory of Hans Brenninkmeyer
