Relaxed Performance: Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony

A beginning and an end: For our first-ever Relaxed Performance for adults, we feature the last symphony Mozart ever composed—conducted by TSO RBC Resident Conductor Simon Rivard. Mozart is synonymous with jaw-dropping ingenuity, and his “Jupiter” Symphony is a musical spectacle the likes of which had never been seen before. The “explosively charismatic” (The New York Times) Avi Avital is the first mandolinist to be nominated for a GRAMMY®, and the driving force behind a 21st-century mandolin resurgence. In this concert, he shares a joyfully exhilarating gem by Vivaldi that showcases the instrument’s crystalline beauty and sensuous charm. This program of classical and baroque creations begins with a work by Marianna Martines—an accomplished, multi-talented artist and contemporary of Mozart’s.
