Violinist Sydney Eunjin Chun joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 1999.
A native of Seoul, Korea, Sydney began studying piano at age 4, violin at age 6 and received numerous awards and prizes in competitions. Subsequently, her family moved to Toronto, Canad,a where she joined the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and served as a concertmaster for three seasons.
Sydney received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with David Zafer and continued her Master's at Rutgers University with Arnold Steinhardt. Her chamber music teachers include Lorand Fenyves, Michael Tree and Zara Nelsova.
Sydney also took masterclasses with Aaron Rosand, Cho-Liang Lin, Christian Tetzlaff, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Emerson String Quartet, St. Lawrence String Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic Quartet.
Sydney has performed as a soloist with the Colorado Springs Music Festival Orchestra after winning a concerto competition, Hart House Orchestra, Cathedral Bluff Symphony and the University of Toronto Chamber Orchestra, where her performance of Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.1, D Major was broadcast on CJRT FM.
Sydney plays a J-B Vuillaume violin once belonged to a former concertmaster of the TSO, Albert Pratz.
In her spare time, Sydney enjoys travelling, exploring food scenes, watching Korean dramas, and practicing Pilates and hot yoga.
