Piano soloist Ilya Poletaev performs Russian composer Nikolai Medtner’s Concerto No. 3, a stirring work that Medtner dedicated to his friend, Sergei Rachmaninoff – who returned the honour by dedicating his Fourth Concerto to Medtner! Peter Oundjian surrounds it with Debussy’s languorous evocation of a hot afternoon in mythological times, and the ravishing final scenes of Ravel’s masterpiece, the “choreographic symphony” Daphnis et Chloé.
