2009.2010 Season
Sibelius Festival II
The second concert in the Sibelius Festival charts his development toward a more individual and more concentrated style. The Third Symphony is a bright, buoyant exercise in Neo-Classicism. The Fourth, composed during a period of enormous emotional and physical turmoil, reflects those emotions in music of tremendous strength and bleakness. Completing the programme are the tone poem Finlandia, recognized internationally as an urgent call to defy oppression, and the moving, rarely heard Cantique and Devotion for Violin and Orchestra.
On April 17 at 6:45pm, join Rick Phillips for a relaxed and enlightening discussion about the performance, with a Pre-Concert Chat in the lobby.
Intermission Lobby Chat with featured performers.
The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform Finlandia alongside the TSO.
