Virginia Chen Wells,
Violin

Virginia Chen Wells received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University, where she was an Angier Biddle Duke Scholar, and her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where her teachers included Glenn Dicterow, Laurie Carney and Daniel Avshalomov. Her orchestral experience includes four years as Associate Concertmaster of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Concertmaster and Principal Second positions with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra, the Augusta Symphony Orchestra in Georgia and the Round Top Festival Orchestra in Texas.
In addition to touring with the TSO, Virginia has toured South America as a member of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble; she has participated in the Edinburgh Festival as a member of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, and has held a residency with her string trio at the Pacific Rim Festival in the Pacific Rim National Park, British Columbia. In 1987, Ginny worked with legendary conductors Leonard Bernstein and Sergiu Celibidache at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.
In 2003, Ginny was a member of the Music Minstrels, a program developed by the Bayview Support Network to provide music for staff and patients at the Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre. She enjoys playing chamber music, especially with her TSO colleagues, and is privileged to play with groups such as the Bach Consort.
Born in Radford, Virginia, and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, to Taiwanese parents, Ginny has been a member of the TSO since 1991. She is married and has two children.
