Members of the Orchestra
Timothy Dawson,
double bass
Timothy Dawson has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Double Bass section since 1980. He began his studies in Edmonton with Peter Marck and graduated from the University of Toronto under the guidance of Tom Monohan. For the past fifteen years Tim has been the proud owner of Tom Monohan's Montagnana double bass.
Over the years Timothy has been instrumental in starting several chamber music groups. One of them, The Bach Consort continues to this day, presenting two fund-raising concerts per year. This group has been an artistic success, working under conductors like Bernard Labadie, Nick McGegan, Jane Glover and several times with Yannick Nezet-Seguin. The Bach Consort has also been an important community presence as well, raising many thousands of dollars for local charities including our very own Toronto Symphony Adopt a Player programme.
Timothy has recently been asked to take over the artistic administration of the TSO Adopt a Player programme. He hopes to introduce some new ideas next fall that may bring this unique TSO education programme into the public arena.
Timothy has two musical children: Julia, an aspiring opera singer currently studying at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and Sam, a talented rock musician. Timothy, his partner Kim and her son Sebastian live in the beach area with a small menagerie of dogs and cats.
