Violinist Sydney Chun joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1999. Prior to joining the TSO, Ms Chun appeared with various orchestras including Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Princeton Chamber Symphony and Sarasota West Coast Symphony Orchestra. A native of Seoul, Korea, Ms Chun began her musical studies on the piano at age four, started violin at age six and won numerous competitions and awards in Korea and received her Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Toronto, studying with Prof. David Zafer, where she received Kathleen Parlow Scholarship. She continued her graduate studies at Rutgers State University of New Jersey with Arnold Steinhardt of the renowned Guarneri String Quartet. Ms Chun has participated in Masterclasses with Cho-Liang Lin, Christian Tetzlaff, Emerson String Quartet, Berlin Philharmonic String Quartet as well as studying chamber music with Lorand Fenyves, Michael Tree and Zara Nelsova.

As a dedicated chamber musician teacher and soloist, Ms Chun has had solo appearances with the Colorado Springs Festival Orchestra, the University of Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Cathedral Bluff Symphony and the Hart House Orchestra at the University of Toronto where her performances were broadcasted on CJRT. She has taught at the National Music Camp of Canada and has performed recitals in New Hampshire, New Jersey and Toronto. Most recent activities include performances on the TSO’s Five Small Concerts chamber music series and concerts with the Bach Consort.

Ms Chun is an alumnus of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra where she served as a concertmaster.
