Members of the Orchestra
Julie Ranti,
associate principal flute
Julie has been a member of the TSO since 1985. She was the youngest member of the orchestra when she won her audition at age 24. Julie grew up in Montreal in a musical family. Her mother is a harpist, her father is the former principal trumpet of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and her brother is a bassoonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Julie was fortunate to begin flute studies with Jeanne Baxtresser, who was principal flute of the MSO at the time. After a year at the Interlochen Arts Academy, she attended The Juilliard School where she studied with Julius Baker and Samuel Baron.
Julie is a founding member of the Bach Consort, and is on the faculty of The Royal Conservatory of Music.
She lives in Toronto with her husband and two children.
