David Longenecker,
double bass

Bassist Dave Longenecker has enjoyed performing music with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, where he has been a member for 26 years. As well as performing with the Toronto Symphony, Dave also enjoys performing in musicals around Toronto, Stratford and the Shaw Festival, as well as performing background music in commercials and movies, as well as playing gospel music and jazz.
The bass that Dave perfoms on is approximately 240 years old. The bass was previously owned by the legendary jazz bassist, Ray Brown, and was bought for Ray as a present from his wife at that time: Ella Fitzgerald.
It was on this instrument that Ray Brown made a name for himself while defining the sound of the jazz double bass - playing this bass on many recordings of the time, including all of the Oscar Peterson Trio recordings.
